C++, really? Still?

Microsoft is still cranking out the C++ guidance. What a difficult language. Years ago I toyed around with it and actually developed a rudimentary app, but it was an incredibly long and difficult process & I still get queasy when I see the word “Pointer.”

Is anybody out there really using C++ instead of all the newer options?

May I divide the problem in 2:

(1) the power, speed, expressiveness of C++, very desirable

(2) the syntax, the hieroglyphs of the modern age, but the keyboard is somewhat limited. We should have an Iversionian keyboard.

Thanks for weighing in. I was thinking other newer, safer options were available with similar power, speed and expressiveness, but I do know it’s a very capable language in the hands of experienced, smart developers. And MS is still pumping out the C++ guidance in VS 2026 and so on. (and I’ll have to look up an Iversionian keyboard – oh I just did AI tells me: “it wasn’t referring to a real keyboard layout or technology. It was a playful, tongue‑in‑cheek comment suggesting that maybe we need a new kind of keyboard to handle the complexity of C++ syntax more easily.”)
