Microsoft’s November AI roadmap for Visual Studio focuses on one big theme: agents built by developers, for developers. The update outlines work on custom agents, a Test Agent, and a Debugger Agent, as well as progress on running multiple agents together to support more complex coding, testing, and debugging workflows.
The roadmap also details improvements to Agent Mode and Chat, with better context management, slash commands, and previews that clarify what an agent will do before it acts. Behind the scenes, Microsoft continues to expand its Model Context Protocol (MCP) to unify security, governance, and model management across the IDE.
These updates point toward a future where Visual Studio’s AI features behave less like a single Copilot and more like a collaborative team of specialized assistants.
