VS Code 1.111 is notable for two reasons: it’s the first release under the new weekly Stable cadence, and it adds more control over how AI agents behave in chat.
A new permissions picker lets you decide how autonomous an agent should be, including a preview Autopilot mode that allows agents to iterate on tasks automatically. There are also agent-scoped hooks for customizing agent behavior and new debugging tools to inspect agent activity when something goes wrong.
The overall direction is clear: more autonomy for agents, but also more visibility and control for developers.
